A green unlike any other. Rohrer & Klingner Goldgrn, also known as Alt-Goldgrn (‘old gold-green’), is an unusual, earthy olive green with a vintage character and beautiful shading.

Key highlights

• Colour: muted olive or ‘old gold’ green
• Shading: good, with light and dark tones in each stroke
• Saturation: low to moderate, soft and natural
• Drying: slightly slow
• Character: vintage, earthy and distinctive
• Type: dye-based writing ink
• Bottle: 50ml glass

A colour with character

Goldgrn sits between olive, moss and old gold. It looks like ink on an antique map or a forgotten botanical journal, which makes it a favourite for nature notes, sketching and vintage-style letters.

Shading that shows

Because it is less saturated than many inks, Goldgrn pools at the end of strokes and lightens in the middle, giving handwriting depth and movement. Broad and stub nibs show this best.

Writing tips

• Use smooth, fountain-pen-friendly paper to show off its shading
• Try it with wetter nibs for richer colour
• Allow a little extra drying time

Rohrer & Klingner heritage

Since 1892, this German ink maker has blended classic colours with modern performance, and Goldgrn is one of its most distinctive greens.

Frequently asked questions

Is it water resistant?

No, it is a standard writing ink.

Is it suitable for dip pens?

Yes, R&K writing inks are made for fountain pens, dip pens and calligraphy tools.

Pen pairing ideas

Try Goldgrn in a broad or stub nib on cream paper for a wonderfully antique look, or in a brass or wooden pen whose warm tones echo the ink.
