Every year on the seventh day of the seventh month, Japan celebrates Tanabata, the star festival. It retells an old legend of two lovers separated by the Milky Way who are allowed to meet only once a year. One of them is the weaver princess, represented in the night sky by the bright star Vega. The Sailor Shikiori Japanese Fairy Tale Vega ball pen captures her story in a deep, starry dark blue resin with gold plated trim.

The Japanese Fairy Tale series

Sailor’s Shikiori collection is famous for colours drawn from Japanese seasons and culture. Its Japanese Fairy Tale series goes a step further, with each pen inspired by a well-known folk story. Vega is the night-sky piece of the set, joined by Princess Kaguya, the Grateful Crane and the Dragon Palace.

Handling and writing

This is a solid, substantial ball pen at 29g, with a 133mm length and 12mm diameter. The extra weight gives it a steady, grounded feel on paper, which many people find helps their handwriting look neater. It opens with a twist, with no cap to misplace, and writes cleanly on any everyday paper.

Who will treasure it

It’s perfect for couples (think anniversaries or long-distance relationships), astronomy lovers, anyone fascinated by Japanese culture, and collectors of the Sailor Shikiori range. It arrives in Sailor’s original packaging with an international warranty card, so it’s ready to give.
