Kusa Asobi: playing in nature

Sailor’s Shikiori line celebrates the four seasons of Japan. The Kusa Asobi range, introduced in 2024, is inspired by childhood play in nature: flower crowns, toy boats on streams, collecting nuts and making snow rabbits. Its four translucent colours are Hanakanmuri, Sasabune, Tsurubami and Yukiusagi.

Why Tsurubami?

Tsurubami is an old Japanese word linked to the acorn, and this shade is inspired by acorns and autumn leaves. The pen captures that gentle, nostalgic autumn brown, making it a beautiful choice for journaling, letters and seasonal notes.

The Sailor Fine nib

Japanese nibs write finer than European ones, so a Sailor Fine is closer to a Western Extra Fine. It is perfect for small handwriting, planners and writing in Indian or East Asian scripts, with the crisp, lightly tactile feel Sailor is famous for.

Light and pocketable

At just over 12g, the pen is easy to carry all day. Its screw-on cap protects the nib while you are on the move.

Perfect pairings

Sailor Shikiori inks were made for these pens; an autumnal brown or deep red from the range would echo Tsurubami beautifully.
