Why writers love Salix

Salix (Latin for willow) gives you the security of a permanent ink with the convenience of a fountain pen. Notes, signatures and records written with it resist water and fading, which is why it is a favourite for diaries, ledgers and documents that need to last.

Understanding iron gall

Iron gall inks have been used since the Middle Ages. They contain iron salts and tannins that react with air and paper, turning the writing darker and binding it into the page. Salix is one of only two iron gall inks in Rohrer & Klingner’s writing ink range, alongside Scabiosa.

Using Salix safely

• Use it in modern fountain pens with steel or gold nibs
• Flush the pen with water every week or two
• Do not leave it sitting in a pen you will not use for a long time
• Expect light blue staining on some converters and demonstrator parts
