Prugna means “plum” in Italian, and the Leonardo Essenza No.8 Titanium Nib Fountain Pen in Prugna CT is every bit as rich as the name suggests. Deep purple and black acrylic resin swirl together under chrome trim, making this one of the most elegant pens in the Essenza range.

The look

Purple and black is dramatic and sophisticated. In different light, the deep purple glows while the black adds depth and contrast. It’s a pen that looks luxurious without needing gold.

The nib

Like the other titanium-nib Essenza pens, Prugna comes with a large No.8 titanium nib in Fine, Medium or Broad. Titanium nibs are prized by many enthusiasts for their unique, slightly springy character on paper.

The filling system

A piston filler lets you draw ink straight from the bottle. Plum, purple and burgundy inks look wonderful in this pen, but it’s equally at home with a classic black or blue-black.

The maker

Leonardo Officina Italiana is an Italian pen company admired for bold colours, quality materials and reliable piston fillers. The Essenza is one of its core designs.

Who it’s for

If you already own a few fountain pens and want something special, the Prugna is a great upgrade. It also makes a memorable gift for a writer, artist or pen collector.
