The beauty of burl wood

A burl is a rounded outgrowth on a tree where the grain twists and folds on itself. When it is cut and polished, it reveals a lively, marbled pattern in warm brown tones. No two pieces are alike, so the pen you hold has a grain pattern that belongs to you alone.

A luxury heritage since 1761

Faber-Castell has been crafting writing instruments in Stein, near Nuremberg, since 1761, and in 1993 Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell launched Graf von Faber-Castell as the family’s luxury line. The Classic collection is its signature: fluted precious-wood barrels, platinum-plated metal and a solid, spring-loaded clip. Thuja burl joins the classic woods of the line, such as ebony, Pernambuco and grenadilla, as one of its most expressive finishes.

Writing with the Classic ballpoint

A smooth twist of the barrel brings the tip forward, and the large-capacity refill writes a confident, even line page after page. The slim 9mm profile sits elegantly in the hand, while the metal fittings give it a balanced, reassuring weight of about 30g.

Who it is for

• Executives who want a signature pen with natural character
• Collectors of Graf von Faber-Castell’s Classic woods
• Gift buyers looking for a truly individual luxury present

Frequently asked questions

Will the wood change over time?

Natural wood can mellow and deepen in colour with handling, giving the pen a personal patina over the years.

Can I replace the refill?

Yes, it takes a large-capacity international-standard ballpoint refill, so replacements are easy to find.

Is there a matching fountain pen?

Yes, the Classic fountain pen in Thuja burl shares the same wood and fittings.

Caring for your pen

Wipe the wood with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from prolonged direct sunlight and moisture to protect the finish.
