As the light fades on a summer evening, swallows swoop low over the rice fields and rivers of rural Japan. The yutsubame, or evening swallow, gives its name to this Sailor Shikiori Sansui Yutsubame ball pen, a deep dusk blue resin with gold plated trim that feels calm and quietly elegant.

The Sansui series

Sansui literally means “mountains and water”, the Japanese way of describing landscape. Sailor’s Shikiori Sansui pens draw their colours from the countryside, from flowers and birds to mountain animals. Yutsubame is the series’ twilight blue, a shade that suits both professional settings and personal journaling.

Light, comfortable and ready to go

At only 20g, this is one of the lighter pens in Sailor’s Shikiori ball pen range, which makes it a great choice if you write for long stretches. It’s 134mm long with a 12mm diameter, so it still feels full-size in the hand. A twist of the barrel brings out the refill, and there’s no cap to worry about.

Ideal for

• Daily note-taking at work or college
• Journaling and planners
• Gifting to someone who loves nature, birds or Japanese art
• Anyone looking for a blue and gold ball pen that feels a bit more special
