If you could own only one good pen, a black-and-gold classic would be a very safe bet. The Sailor 1911S Black ball pen is exactly that: glossy black resin, gold plated trim and the iconic Sailor 1911 profile, in a slim ballpoint that goes from office to home to travel without a second thought. It’s one of the most versatile Japanese executive pens you can buy.

Everything you might want to know

What is the Sailor 1911S?

It’s the ballpoint member of Sailor’s 1911 family, named after the year the company was founded in Japan. It keeps the rounded ends and gold accents the 1911 fountain pens are known for.

How big is it?

It’s 134mm long with a slim 9.5mm diameter and weighs 21g. It’s a good match for people who like a slender pen and for tucking into a shirt pocket or planner loop.

Does it have a cap or a click button?

Neither. You twist the barrel to extend and retract the tip, which is quiet and secure.

What paper does it work on?

Being a ball pen, it writes well on all everyday papers, including photocopy sheets, bank forms, notebooks and glossy cards, and the ink dries quickly.

Is it a good gift?

Very much so. Black and gold suits almost anyone, and it arrives in original Sailor packaging with an international warranty card. It’s a favourite for Father’s Day, promotions, retirement and corporate gifting.

Are other colours available?

Yes, the 1911S ball pen also comes in maroon and ivory with gold trim.
